Crockpot Chili Recipe Reviewed by Jennifer I think an even leaner version of
this chili would not have the refried beans in it at all. Even
the low fat version can pack in the sodium, calories and fat.
You could increase the meat, add more vegetables (like whole or
chopped tomatoes and more peppers) or just increase the other whole
beans to make the same amount of chili. I also increase the
garlic because after cooking all day, I find that the garlic flavor
turns sweeter and less intense. I almost double the amount of
garlic, but that is a personal preference. The leftovers, if I
have any, freeze and refrigerate well. I usually make this on
a Saturday when the kids have sports all day and we need a hearty
nourishing meal at the end of the day when we are all exhausted.
It’s easy enough that even my husband has been known to prepare it
now and then. Thanks!
