National Turkey Lovers Month
June is National Turkey Lovers Month! The governor of
Lincoln, NE declared
June as National Turkey Lovers Month back in 2006. Turkey
production is a large part of Nebraska's income so the governor
decided to honor the industry with a whole month to celebrate.
Turkey is a great
protein - it's lean and extremely delicious. Ground turkey
is a great substitute in any one
chili recipe
found on our website. It can replace any ground
beef or pork to reduce calories in your favorite meat dishes.
Other ways to celebrate National Turkey Lovers Month include:
1. Roast a turkey for a summer family get together.
Use the turkey for sandwiches instead of traditional roast turkey
slices with sides.
2. Use the leftover turkey to make turkey salad.
Shred the turkey by hand. Add chopped grapes, chopped pecans,
and just enough mayonnaise to hold it all together. Season to
taste with salt and pepper.
3. You can also use the leftover turkey to make
turkey chili
instead of using ground turkey or other meats. Choose any
chili recipe and substitute the cooked turkey for the meat.
Season as directed and enjoy with crackers and maybe some cheese.
Take a few minutes and plan a few meals with turkey instead of
your usual red meat this month. You will reduce your calories
for each meal and be on your way to a healthier lifestyle. You
will also be celebrating National Turkey Lovers Month!! Become
a Turkey Lover today!
