Super Bowl 2008 Chili
This year I want to try something new a different for the Super
Bowl. I have just moved into a new house, and we are having a
few guests over to watch the game. Even though I want to try a
new recipe, I still don't have all the time in the world to make my
chili so I'm going really simple this year. The recipe I'm
using follows.
Ingredients
• Olive oil
• 3 medium onions, chopped
• 1 medium green pepper, chopped
• 1 medium red pepper, chopped
• 1 lb. ground deer meat
• 2 lbs. ground beef
• 3 16 oz. cans tomato sauce
• 3 Tbsp. chili powder
• salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Brown meats in a large pot. Salt and pepper the meat while
cooking. Drain and set aside. Saute onions and peppers
in same pot (without wiping clean). You may use a little olive
oil if the meats didn't leave enough fat to cook the onions and
peppers.
Return meats to pot. Add tomato sauce and chili powder.
Cook on medium heat for approximately 1 and a half hours.
This recipe makes a very thick chili. If you like your
chili a bit thinner, you may either add more tomato sauce or a bit
of beef or chicken broth. I tend to use an organic chicken
broth. I start by adding 1 cup then 1/2 cup increments until I
reach the consistency I desire.
I've also found that this chili recipe freezes well. You
can have some today and some a few weeks later!
